How to Install Dot Net Service Pack 3.5 for SQL Server 2008

Before installing SQL Server 2008, you need to install the .Net Framework 3.5 (or

higher).

Here you will learn how to install SQL Server 2008 Service pack. Please follow following

Click on OK, and you will see the following window as the files are extracted from the

package:

Finally, you'll see this:

  

Click on the top radio button, and then click on Install. This will download the package from the Microsoft  website and install it on your server.

Alternatively, you might want to download the full, redistributable .Net 3.5 Framework package.

This is very useful if you are going to install SQL Server 2008 on more than one machine, as it means you only have to download it once from the Microsoft site. As the download is 231 Mb in size, this can get quite t edious if you have to download it every time.

So it's best to download the full package once if you intend to install SQL Server

2008 on multiple machines.

Once you've done this, you can burn it to CD or save it on a network drive so that it

can be applied to more than one machine without having to wait for it to download.

If you wish to do down this route, download the executable from:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe

(correct at the time of writing).

If you can't find it, search t he internet for .net framework 3.5 full redistributable package, or for dotnetfx35.exe

Once you've started installing the .Net Framework 3.5, you may see this

Message;

This is on a machine with Visual Studio running.

If you see this, simply exit the applications that the installer is complaining about

and click on Retry.

Not e that you may need to wait 5-10 seconds after closing the applicat ion for it to be

removed from the Windows process list, otherwise you may see the same mesasge

appear again.

When finished, this appears: WAIT until it disappears, DO NOT hit cancel.

Eventually the Cancel button will turn grey.

Finally, you will see this:

Click on the Exit button.

The following screen appears:

Note: Now you can easily install SQL Server 2008 in your system.
